A shocking true crime story of sex, greed and cold-blooded murder! Veteran true crime author Gary C. King spins a gripping real-life tale of a woman caught in a deadly web of lust and violence...a riveting story of love gone horribly, tragically wrong.
Kathryn Ann Martini graduated from Yale with a bright future in the banking business. Young, beautiful, and ambitious, she had everything going for her. Until she met Michael David Lissy, the sleazy proprietor of a scuba diving school who was a coke addict that consorted with pimps, prostitutes and other known criminals. Burned out and broke, he had nothing going for him. Then he met Kathryn...a match made in hell.
On July 6, 1984, the raped and mutilated body of Kathryn Martini Lissy was found in room 305 at the Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon. Soon afterward, police arrested Michael David Lissy, Kathryn's husband of one year. A few months earlier, Lissy had taken out a large insurance policy on Kathryn's life, naming him as sole beneficiary. Then he hired an underworld assassin to stalk and kill his wife. After one of the most sensational trials in Eugene's history, Lissy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Riveting account of pure evil and the unrelenting work of law enforcement to bring the wrong doers to justice. I both read the e book and listened to the audio book narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I have read a lot of true crime books and this one was top notch with actual transcripts, in depth documentary style account of the investigation, and of course the ups and downs of the trial. What made this so compelling was the terrible nature of the crime, the depth of betrayal, and how very very much I wanted to see the miscreants involved caught and punished. Almost couldn't put it down.Product details

Murder in Room 305 (Audible Audio Edition) Gary C King J Scott Bennett Gary C King Enterprises Books Reviews
Mr King has obviously done his homework. It's not easy to be a good crime writer. It's even more difficult to write true crime because of the research that must go into it. Anyone can make crap up and write a story. To investigate and discern myths from facts takes real skill, not to mention undaunting persistence. If you like true crime stories, you will surely be impressed with this one!
This is the first time I've read this type of book. Gary does a great job with showing the reader the details of the crime and investigations. It held my attention all the way through After reading this, I feel that greed is the main cause of most crimes.
Not easy being a law enforcer, investigator and having to deal with so much greed.
Thank you for the wonderful book!!!

A riveting tale of sex, drugs, and murder. This story marches straight toward a conclusion that will leave you wondering about how evil, distorted, and disingenuous humans can be. A true tale that takes you from murder through investigation, gory killing to satisfying conclusion. If you enjoy Ann Rule, you'll love Gary King. As a student of police procedure, [...] I can vouch for Gary King's research and valid reporting. Do not miss Murder in Room 305.
Gary C. King is a very talented true crime writer with a knack for describing the details of a case without sensationalizing it. He always shows great respect for the victim(s) and loved ones involved. He is also very truthful about the detectives who work the cases.
Murder in Room 305 starts out looking like a simple case of robbery/rape/murder, but there are several details that lead investigators to believe that something more sinister happened to the beautiful woman they found dead in her motel room. The author follows investigators as they try to piece together what really happened Kathryn Ann Martini.
I did enjoy the attention to detail and the way the story was written. Not entirely original in concept, but it is a true crime tale, and the author did a great job weaving it all together. (Don't read on if you hate spoilers and haven't read it yet!)
Lissy is a classic sociopath, who lies even when it doesn't matter, whose lies are so smooth and so effortless that he is able to drag many women (and men) into his web of deceit. He cons yet another woman into marrying him- Kathy- in order to take advantage of financial gain, and almost immediately begins his plot to get rid of her, which is so cold and unbelievably easy for him to concoct, let alone con others into participating in.
There were moments when I realized I was still hooked but beginning to wonder why I cared, which is hard to explain and yet I feel I must mention. I'm thinking more attachment to the victim would help develop the reaction in the reader. This is why I gave it four stars instead of five. A page turner, but honestly I didn't care as much as I should have.
If you are a lover of true crime books, or if you have never read a true crime book, this is a must read. Before I read this book, I had never read a true crime book before. But this will not be my last true crime book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story, well put together, and concisely told. Gary C. King has found his perfect genre. I look forward to reading more of his books, and delving deeper into the genre as a whole. It is good to see our justice system at work, despite the evil that people insist on doing to one another. Thanks Gary, for a great book.
This well-researched, well-written tale of greed, lust, human depravity, and murder reveals the ugliness and pettiness of people who have allowed their lower nature to reign. I found it especially disturbing because I had lived in Eugene, Oregon one summer when I was just out of high school. The hapless plotting of depraved people and the diligence of law enforcement painted a graphic picture of good vs. evil in our real world. My only reservation comes in that some of the details of the court proceedings were longer than I cared to read, but it was so well written that I could easily skip ahead to where the narrative picked up again without losing a beat. Whew! Relieved to see the evil-doers put away.
